Law, stage by stage

On AffectionPlus no legal page lives in a section of its own. You look up image rights when you are about to send a photo, the property regime before signing, maintenance during a divorce, inheritance after a death: each page therefore sits at the stage of a couple's life where the question comes up. This page gathers them all, for anyone who wants to read them as a set.

They follow the same architecture: a main article stating what is true in every country, then a page for each country giving the applicable framework, the figures, the procedure, the costs, recent changes and a set of questions and answers. Never stop at the main article if your situation belongs to a particular country: the useful answer is in the country page. For EU countries, a further entry describes the applicable directive or regulation, of which the national law is a transposition.

Family law and digital law are national: the age of marriage, the list of grounds for divorce, forced heirship, the cooling-off period, the penalties for unlawful content all change from one country to the next, sometimes from one province to the next. Each article above is therefore followed by its country pages, and the comparator puts two or three countries side by side on the same subject.
