Pakistan, 240 million people, governs Muslim family life under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 — registration of marriages, arbitration councils for polygamy and divorce, maintenance — while Christians and Hindus have their own marriage laws. The minimum age of marriage is 16 for girls in most provinces, 18 in Sindh and, since 2025, in Islamabad; child marriage remains common.
Abortion is restricted to saving the woman's life or, before the organs form, providing necessary treatment; same-sex relations are criminalised; the Protection of Women Act 2006 and provincial domestic violence laws offer protection, and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 covers online harassment.
