What is your attachment style?

Twelve couple-life situations, four ways of reacting. A game based on adult attachment theory, which says something about the way you love — and about what would do you good.

Where this test comes from

Attachment theory describes how a child bonds with those who care for them and, since the 1980s, how adults bond with their partners. Researchers distinguish four tendencies: secure, anxious, avoidant and fearful. They are neither diagnoses nor definitive boxes — a stable relationship moves the style the right way, a chaotic one the other way —, but they explain a good share of what repeats from one relationship to the next. This test is a game for reflection: twelve situations, the answer that resembles you most, and a commented profile. It does not replace a professional’s view.

Based on the work of Hazan and Shaver (1987) and Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) on adult attachment. Twelve questions do not make a clinical assessment: a psychologist has far longer validated questionnaires.
