Zodiac love portraits are one of the oldest pastimes in the press. They entertain, they get people talking, and that is fine — as long as you know what they are worth. No study has ever shown a link between the position of the stars at birth and personality or romantic life. When a portrait seems to land, what is operating is the Barnum effect: descriptions general and flattering enough that anyone recognises themselves.
Their real use lies elsewhere: they give a convenient pretext for talking about yourself and the other person, and for asking questions you would not raise spontaneously on a third date. Taken that way, they do no harm at all.

Almanacs distinguish three ways of leaving, and they follow the elements rather than the signs.
- Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) — a clean, fast break, sometimes explosive, followed by an unexpected return of affection months later.
- Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) — a long-considered decision, announced late, and rarely revisited.
- Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) — gradual drift rather than announcement; the friendship afterwards is real, not a politeness.
- Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) — the break is lived out long after it was decided, and traces remain.
The one rule that actually works
